- I just bought a Gateway 2000 386/25 nocache Micronics Motherboard and I need
- some help with it. I've already tried both Gateway and Micronics Tech Lines.
-
- Objective: To install 2 megabytes in 256k simms modules.
-
- Problem: When I plugged the chips up, the computer won't come on. It just
- beeps out an error message which the Micronics Tech people describe
- as a memory error message.
-
- Paradox: The manual says that 256k simms will work!!! In fact, it has a chart
- with a diagram showing several different configurations, several of
- which use 256k simms. The Tech people say they should work. They
- advised me to try some different simms. So I have. 1 megabyte simms
- seem to work fine. I tried a different brand of 256k simms that
- were 3 chip simms, and they would not work either. I have some 9
- chip simms made my NEC which are not working with it. I have ordered
- a different brand of 9 chip simms to test out in there, but I have a
- strange feeling that its NOT the simms fault!!
-
- Question: Does anyone know what the problem is? Does anyone have a Gateway 2000
- system using a Micronics 386/25 nocache motherboard? And if so, do
- you have 256k simms in it? If so, what brand? I could use any
- suggestions you all might have, please email me if possible. The 256k
- simms I have repeatedly tried are: NEC MC-41256A9B-80 (9038ME)
- Please help!!
-
- PS: Yes, I have tried setting Jumpers on the board. None apply to the
- simms.
