- Greetings folks!
-
- A couple of questions to all you seasoned technicians out there.
-
- 1) Is it possible to mix SIMMS modules of different speeds? If
- If so, what would be the worst possible occurance of a problem if
- this were done?
-
- 2) Is it possible to mix SIMMS modules of different chip configs?
- For instance, here is (or was) my configuration:
-
-
- Bank0: 2 256kx3 80ns
- Bank1: 2 256kx3 80ns
- Bank2: 2 1MBx3 80ns
- Bank3: 2 1MBx9 80ns
-
- This gave me a total of 5 meg. According to the motherboard
- manual, 5 meg is an acceptable configuration, however it does
- not go into details about the acceptability of different
- module configurations.
-
- My motherboard recently died with a "8024 keyboard controller
- gate A20 error". It is a 386sx-25 with AMI BIOS, and an
- OPTI 82C283 Chipset. The dealer refuses to replace it under
- warranty because they say that the mixing of my SIMMS modules
- caused the failure of my "keyboard controller".
-
- I would like to hear any and all comments about this issue, and
- if you reply, if you are a certified technician, please state
- your position and/or company as well. Thanks a bunch inadvance!
