- That's easy. Because the internal bus was running at 40Mhz before, whereas
- with the 486DX2-50 the internal bus is running at 25Mhz. There's an
- interesting-but-complex correlation between the clock factor and the ISA bus IO
- speed.

- Again, this is because of the bus speed. The amount of delay on the ISA video
- bus is often tied to the internal clock of the CPU bus. That's why a true
- 50Mhz 486DX-50 is much, much faster in terms of video and other IO. Because
- the CPU bus is running at a full 50Mhz vs the DX2-50's 25Mhz. That's also why
- your CPU upgrade slowed down the video; because you downgraded your clock from
- 40mhz to 25mhz.

- It does appear from the character benchmarks that the "turbo mode" switch on
- the 486DX2 configuration is not functioning as you report the same benchmark
- (4028 chr/ms) for both.
