  14. Hello fellow-netters,
  15.  we have an HP720 running HPUX8.07, and we are experiencing an interesting 
  16. problem with it. Every now and then if you try to open a new xterm or some 
  17. application tries to spawn off a new process, the OS claims that there are
  18.  'no more processes',and the system begins to hang. If I kill some of
  19. the processes it recovers and allows normal execution.

  21. We thought that we are really running out of processes and consequently we used
  22. SAM to set the total number of processes to 1100, and max. user process limit 
  23. is set to 250. After these changes the problem still exists. I used the top 
  24. utility to check the number of processes at the point in time when I got the
  25. no more processes error, and found that there were at most 70-80 total processes
  26. in the system. We also suspected that maybe the swap space is not configured
  27. correctly, but using monitor utility I was able to determine that swap space 
  28. utilization was at less than 50% and memory utilization was around 80%. I am not
  29. sure what else could be going wrong with the system!

  31. Did anyone out there had this sort of problem with their system. Any ideas about
  32. what's going on? I would appreciate any help/hints leading to the solution of 
  33. this problem. This problem has kept us from utilizing our system to its 
  34. capability, and is getting really frustrating.
