I've been using xsetroot -cursor to change the cursor bitmap (and mask) in the root window and have observed the following behaviour.
On the 720/730 workstations, the X server will not allow bitmaps larger than 64x64, simply refusing to display them.
On the 700/RX station (X terminal) a bitmap larger than 64x64 is displayed, but cropped, losing anything on the right and bottom which is more than 64 pixels from the top left corner.
On our Labtam X stations however, we can use bitmaps larger than 64x64, no problems.
We're running HP-UX 8.07, and so in each instance the X server code running is X11R4 based.
So, why the differences? Can we display larger cursors on HP machines? Does this limitation exist under 9.0 and R5? (Not that we've received it yet...)
Please address replies to the address below.
Thanks in advance,
Michael.
