- The Kodak PhotoCD format has several unique features. First, it requires
- CDROM-XA compatible drive and driver. Also, the disc does not have a
- filesystem in the HP-UX sense...it requires special software to read the
- files. The files are compressed and stored in Kodak-proprietary formats
- which require software libraries from Kodak to read and display.
-
- Until recently, no CDROM drive/driver combination could read multisession
- discs. This is true of both the Mac and PC platforms as well as Un*x boxes.
- Several manufacturers of CDROM drives and drivers are adding this capability,
- which often requires hardware or firmware support within the drive. So far,
- no products have been announced by HP that will support PhotoCD discs.
