- Hello out there...
-
- I have the following little problems, maybe somebody knows
- something about them:
-
- My machine is a 705 with a grayscale monitor running HP-UX 8.07.
-
- 1. When I shutdown to put the system in single user mode (runlevel S)
- the screen turns black. With foreground color black and background
- color black live is difficult ;-)
- This behaviour does NOT occur when I `shutdown -h' or `shutdown -r'.
- (Is it a simple color problem or is init concerned or sth else?)
-
- 2. Some resource files of X window clients aren't located at standard
- positions. Following the advice of a HP X window system book, I
- tried to use the environment variable
- XUSERFILESEARCHPATH
- but with no success. What is the correct syntax for its value?
- XAPPLRESDIR seems to override standard the lokations, so not
- all clients may find there resource files at the same time.
- How far is the value of
- LANG
- of interest? Is it an X11R4 problem?
-
- 3. I'd like to put additional permanent symlinks into ~/.vue/apps
- (i.e. games -> /usr/local/games/bin :-) but after logout (during login?)
- the original links are restored and mine have gone away.
-
- 4. The last question is about the direct control of the internal
- speaker. First I thought of using audio support (Alib and Aserver),
- but I don't want to play samples. I'd like to generate tones
- directly per software and somehow Aserver must talk to the
- hardware. Furthermore the style manager provides a feature
- to change the duration and frequency of the warning bell.
-
- I plan to write a program which translates text into MORSE code
- (is this the right english word for
- beep beeeeeep beeeeeep beep beep beep ... ?)
- and then play the result with arbitrary speed using the internal
- (or external) speaker.
- When this will work, I'd like to try my luck on listening to
- audio input (using Alib) and converting MORSE code into ASCII text.
-
- I heard of XBell in X11R5 but couldn't find a man page
- (my docu of Xlib is for X11R3, libX11.sl is X11R4). Is it part
- part of HP-UX 9.0?
-
- Thanks, in advance.
-
- Peter
