-
- Yes we were telling the truth about the scientific/base-n calculator
- watch!
-
- I still have my CFX-200 at home. Great little watch; the only problem it
- has was that you couldn't turn the key beep off. This was strange
- considering that the predecessor (which have a much less useable "scanning"
- method of selecting functions) could have the beep toggled.
-
- Right now, I have a Casio DBX-1000. It's a touchscreen data bank watch
- with a... 96x64? maybe? LCD display. It does the standard phone
- number/scheduling/memo functions of the data bank watches, along with a
- (5 setpoint) alarm and stop watch. It also will display a calendar so that
- you can see what day a certain date is. It has a cute little world map that
- moves for the world time mode. (Very impressive to the technically
- ignorant.) Finally, it has a standard four function calculator. (Although
- VERY standard -- no memory, no square roots, etc.)
-
- I have rather big fingers, and the touchscreen often thought that I was
- hitting a part of the screen I wasn't when I first got it. I've had it for
- a little over a year now, and the touchscreen is much better -- it hardly
- ever misinterprets what I'm hitting.
-
- My wish list for a DBX-2000 would be: a wireless computer interface so that
- you could back up the memory!, a better (scientific? heh!) calculator that
- at least knows algebraic precedence, and perhaps more memory and a better
- calendar (linked to your schedule) function.
-
- Unfortunately, this watch isn't exactly cheap: List price is $250, and the
- best price I've seen is about $150. It does have a metal case, and it
- looks pretty good, so you won't be hampered by "geek watch fear" unless you
- start pecking at the screen. :-)
