- We have a 1600bpi 9-track attached to our 3b2/310. According to the tech
- who came out the other day to service our XM unit, these drives are made by
- one (possibly more) companies which are relabled and resold under many
- different manufacturers names.

- In anycase, we use ours with cpio for our backups, but the main reason for
- purchasing the drive was for exchanging various information with the State
- Controller's Office which use an IBM mainframe.

- In order to read/write the tapes, we use dd with the conv option to
- translate between ansii and ibm format. If you are interested, I can give
- you a few of the prudent lines of code which might help you.

- your other systems.
