  18. I don't believe (or haven't heard of) anyone is planning to continue the
  19. wbak program, however HP has claimed that they would be coming out with
  20. an rbak for HP-UX machines to read Apollo wbak/rbak format tapes.  HP
  21. will most likely support the same medias they have all along; QIC, 4mm
  22. DAT, and 9 track.  Unfortunately HP never saw 8mm as an option, whereas
  23. our site relies on them quite heavily.

  25. Am I upset that HP won't have a product to allow me to read my years
  26. worth of archives and backups?  No, because a company known as
  27. Workstation Solutions in Nashua NH has a similar product (rbak for Unix)
  28. which will read 8mm plus all the other medias that HP supports.  Chances
  29. are when our last few Domain/OS machines go down for the count we will
  30. be purchasing this software to be able to restore our data and perhaps
  31. rewrite it in a more current format.

  33. I believe WS is coming out with rbak for HP-UX (since that will be our
  34. primary target platform as we transition away from Domain/OS), however
  35. they are targeting other platforms with their products and it wouldn't
  36. surprise me if they also had a version for the Sun, IBM, and DEC
  37. platforms.
