- Hi,
- I've been trying to upgrade my A3000 to 2.1 but have run into some
- problems. I bought my 3000 when they first came out and as such it has 2.01
- of the OS (KS 36.207, WB 36.68). When I tried to upgrade to 2.1 it said it
- only works with 2.0 of the OS (!). I guess CBM doesn't consider 2.01 as part
- of the 2.0 release. I know I can get 2.04 for the A3000 in ROM but I lose
- the ability to use the built in 1.3 ROMS. What I would like to do is get the
- 2.04 SuperKickStart disk for the 3000, and use it for the 2.1 install procedure.
- Or get the actual Kickstart file and install it in SYS:Devs/Kickstart and then
- install 2.1. Is this possible? Will I have to buy the entire 2.04 release to
- get this file, only to have to throw out everything but one disk? And does the
- normal 2.04 release even _come_ with the SuperKickStart for the A3000? In
- theory this disk was only supplied to 3000 owners with 2.04 of the OS. If I
- can just replace the current SYS:Devs/Kickstart file then why isn't this file
- on one of the major boards? After all, it's not like I didn't pay enough for
- the A3000 by buying it when it first came out.
-
- Now according to one dealer what I really need is the AS314 kit that
- upgrades the 3000 to 2.1. According to another dealer I need the AS216 kit
- along with the 2.04 ROMS for the 3000. And according to a third dealer 2.1
- won't work on the 3000. The first dealer said that the AS314 kit is software
- only and the second said it is basically the AS216 kit with ROM. Again, I'd
- really like to have 2.04 on disk to allow me to boot 1.3 from ROM for a few
- games that greatly prefer it.
-
- So whats the deal? Has anyone out there had this same problem with
- their 3000? Can I just copy a 2.04 SuperKickStart disk from someone who
- has it? And is this the only thing required to get from where I'm at to 2.1?
- I talked to Commodore but they just re-directed me to one the above dealers.
- I am unaware of a "Tech Support" line for CBM or I would have called it. If
- you have any answers I'd love to here them.
-
- Thanks in advance for any help. Post or email to me.
