-
- I've received lots of suggestions via email, phone calls, and postings here
- on the net, varying from me placing severe restrictions on the redistribution
- of library disks to forming a consortium of volunteers to take over the
- library. For various reasons, I still feel the best overall solution is
- simply to get the number of longterm subscribers back up to more reasonable
- levels. As it is right now, besides paying for the actual distribution
- costs to send them their disks, the 41 paying subscribers are also funding
- the development of new disks and paying other overhead costs, for the
- remainder of all users worldwide.

-
- There is a big difference between handling 75-100 longterm regular subscribers,
- and filling orders from thousands of random users for 10's of thousands of
- disks every month. The second *is* a distribution business, and this is
- *not* something I'd want to be involved in. The first case can be comfortably
- handled by one person spending a couple days duplicating and packaging disks.

-
- To keep up with the volume of submissions probably really needs a release
- of 10 disks every couple of weeks, but I think this is probably too often.
- One release every three weeks is about right, and one release every four
- weeks probably means I've gotten too busy with other things. I don't
- really see any radical changes in the rate of releases, except for maybe
- the one period a couple years ago where I released three batches of 10
- disks each in a period of three weeks, while I was between consulting
- jobs and had the time to spend on constructing new disks.
