- I agree whole-heartedly. All I wanted to do with my post was:
- 1) Show that you didn't have to spend $200,000 to get an SGI workstation.
- 2) Show that it would be more than half the speed of a 4000.
-
- I agree that an Indigo wouldn't make a very good home computer
- (although I think I'd rather program on one than on an Amiga). But I
- thought that the original thread had been about which machine was
- better _for graphics_. If you want to do serious graphics
- programming, I still think that an Indigo, or one of the low-end
- SparcStations would be a better bet than an Amiga (if you have the
- extra $$$ to afford the workstation). The graphics libraries (GL on
- the SGI, and XGL on the Sun) on the workstations are a lot more
- powerful than anything I've seen on the Amiga (i.e. there are routines
- for doing transformations, adding gouraud shading, support of light
- models and materials, etc. As far as I can tell, I'd have to write
- all of this stuff from scratch on the Amiga...)

-
- That's true, software for UNIX boxes is usually quite expensive
- (although there is a wealth of PD X stuff available.)
