- There are two differents classes of editors:
-
- editor a):
- write back the new file content to the old file,
- wether he makes an bakup file or not.
- This editor seems to be friendly to links in the way that
- both names, Alpha and Bravo, remaining refer to the same file
- after all.
-
- editor b)
- renames the old file, this may be done only temporarily
- getting a 'save' way to store the file content.
- After this he writes the new file content to a new file
- having the same name of the old file.
- This editor seems to be unfriendly to links in the way that
- two files, also named Alpha and Bravo, exist in different variants.
- One is remaining the old contents and the other one contains
- the new contents. There are existing both files because of
- creating a new file for the new contents.
-
-
- If you use GNU emacs, this behaviour can be configured by setting a variable.
