- i dunno if i've missed some stupid little detail, or if i'm imagining
- things, or if something has genuinely changed.
-
- i recently upgraded my A3000 from 2.04 to 2.1. the same day, i decided
- to be done with the stupid partitioning of my main harddrive, and just
- went with one large sys: partition, rather than having the dumb
- "work:" partition also (as well as an unused pseudoPC partition).
-
- everything went great, system runs like a top etc...EXCEPT for this
- little problem: disk caching appears to be different. *every* time i
- double click on the harddrive icon, the disk seeks for each of the
- icons in the main window. same for drawers. if i close the
- window/drawer, then reopen it, the disk seeks out each icon again. it
- used to be that, once i had opened the window the first time,
- subsequent reopening of the window was refreshed from the cache - no
- disk seeks at all. *however*, if the main harddrive window has just one
- single subdir/drawer open, then if i close and reopen the main window,
- it is from cache, but only as long as that drawer is open!
-
- yes, i've made sure i have plenty of buffers. when i used Harddrive
- Toolbox, i gave the full disk 256 buffers. previously, i had 256
- buffers for each of the three partitions on it. just now (while i'm
- writing this), i addbuffer-ed it so it now has 512 buffers. still
- seeks.
-
- was 2.1 changed in some way, or am i forgetting something, or what?
