- No, you can't really. The 68EC030 is an odd device in that although the
- MMU is not guaranteed to function, parts of it may still be active (and on
- some early run devices, indeed the MMU was active, just not tested for use).
- The characteristics of the 68EC030 include fully a fully functional MMU
- register set, meaning you can read/write to these registers, and even attempt
- to set up a translation table in the normal fashion. On most EC030's this
- will simply have no effect...writing to the translation control register in
- a fashion to enable translation will make the system look like the MMU is
- active, but no actual memory translation will take place, as the MMU is
- not truly functioning. However, as mentioned above, a few EC parts may have
- fully or partially working MMUs, the latter ones being the culprit of strange
- behavior should an MMU setup be attempted. Thus, it is really not safe to
- attempt to use an MMU-involved tool with an EC030. The above characteristics
- are also what make identifying a 68EC030 from a 68030 difficult in software.
