- I have been playing around with an Amiga 1200 and have some questions.
-
- I hooked up the A1200 to my IBM VGA monitor to see how it would work. It
- isn't as bad as most people claimed. I can't use it for anything that
- can't be promoted to 15.5 Hrz but it's still useable for most applications.
-
- Some of the screen modes are offset to the right of the screen leaving a
- large black gap on the left of the screen. I did find one mode (Multiscan)
- which centred the screen. I suspect this is due to the fact that some of
- the screen modes output at 29 Hrz and the monitor wasn't really designed for
- this frequency.
-
- Mode promotion works pretty good. I have't found too many programs which refuse
- to promote. I have been able to get the screens that don't promote to work by
- Coerion. Coercion is the result of displaying to screen modes on the screen at
- one time. For example, if you are running Dpaint 4 in the back window and you
- pull down Workbench. There are two screen modes since Dpaint can't be promoted.
- The AMiga will automaticly force the program behind to display in the front
- windows resolution so it can display both screens. I have gotten a number of
- programs to work by draging the WB screen down so only the title of the WB
- screen shows at the bottom. This causes the program in the background to use
- the front screens Frequency.
-
- Which brings me to my question! Why wasn't it possible to force programs into
- a screen mode in this manner? Couldn't it have been done through hardware?
