- Here's some background...
-
- I'm running a CNET BBS (2.42e registered) on a 2000 with a GVP 22mhz '030 Combo
- board with SCSI controller and 5megs of 32bit FAST RAM on it. The 2000 has 1mg
- of CHIP RAM. I've also got a GVP IO Extender board installed to give me two
- more serial ports.
-
- I've got a 14.4k Courier HST on the main serial port, a SupraFAX v.32bis on one
- of the IO boards serial port, and a direct serial link to a 386 PC on the other
- IO board serial port. With this setup (2 phone lines) everything works fine.
- People can be on both modems doing transfers at high speeds and a high speed
- transfer (9600bd or even 19.2k) can be occurring to/from the PC at the same
- time.
-
- We just added a third phone line two weeks ago, and hooked it up to an internal
- Supra 2400zi (plain 2400bd) modem. Whenever someone logs onto this line, there
- is a MAJOR slowdown throughout the whole system. Transfers to/from the PC
- always abort and my own console (sysop) slows down.
-
- Any idea why this is? The driver software for the Supra (modem0.device) is
- version 2.5 I believe. Oh, I also have another unused Supra 2400zi sitting in
- another internal slot... but we're not using it so I assume it's not affecting
- anything.
-
- Why would the use of the 2400bd modem be slowing everything down? Is it that
- the main bus is becoming too busy, or is it a problem with the modem. I guess
- I could try using the other unused modem for a while...
