  14. We use SUN PC-NFS to serve a 1 GB Disk mounted on a
  15. DEC-Station 5000 ( ULTRIX 4.2A ) for several users
  16. on PCs. We have a cluster of seven DEC-Stations and distributed
  17. accounts ( BIND/hesiod ).

  19. The ncnfsd - daemon compares the given password with the entry in
  20. /etc/passwd, but in enhanced security mode the is only a '*' there.
  21.  
  22. So a normal user cannot use the command
  23.  net name user
  24. to log into the system.

  26. To make use of the disk I created a local account on the machine
  27. where the disk is mounted and put an encrypted password in /etc/passwd
  28. ( instead of the '*' ). So users can use the disk, but they have all
  29. the same uid.

  31. Is there a patch for pcnfsd to run properly with ULTRIX?
