  30. Hey Termie, hate to break up your rant but the government (and anyone else
  31. willing to pay for it) has had "super Caller ID" almost from the moment
  32. of divestiture.  This is known as ANI (automatic number identification)
  33. and is provided as part of a service called (was? still is?) Feature
  34. Group D service.  This is normally provided on "4 wire E&M" or T-1 
  35. trunk service.  No pussy local-area-only restrictions either.  
  36. ANI comes in from any call from almost any part of the world.  How do you
  37. think all these little two bit long distance companies and the 900 
  38. chat line providers get their billing information?  *BINGO*

  40. Caller*ID has simply brought us ordinary civilians up to what the big
  41. businesses and government has had for years.
