- So I hear all this stuff about the 486DX/2 being a direct replacement for
- the DX, and that any motherboard with a DX in it can support a DX/2 by
- simply replacing the chip. Well, I have a chance to get a 486DX/2 66 and I
- have a motherboard that only *explicitly* supports a DX 33.
-
- Do I need a special socket or can I
- just drop the DX/2 chip in in place of the DX ? Are they pin-compatible ? I
- really need to know because once I buy the chip I can't send it back and
- it's pretty expensive. Also, I have a 66.666 MHz x-tal in place ... do I
- have to change it ?
-
-
- Barring that, I may trade the DX/2 66 for a DX/33 and some cash, so if it
- won't work, I might still buy it and trade someone who *can* use it.
-
- Let me know if you can help or if you would be interested in the chip if it
- won't work in my board.
-
- Thanks,
-
