  32. Aim of the Workshop
  33. -------------------
  34. Following the first workshop on this theme in 1991, the aim is to provide
  35. a forum for the discussion of abstract machine models for highly parallel
  36. computers. Particular attention will be given to the specification,
  37. implementation and application of such models and to the identification of
  38. key issues for future research.

  40. Workshop Format
  41. ---------------
  42. Invited speakers will give keynote presentations. A selection of submitted
  43. papers which highlight key themes will also be presented. Working groups
  44. will focus on major issues identified through submitted papers and position
  45. statements. The emphasis will be on providing maximum opportunity for
  46. discussion, interchange of ideas and identifying the most promising areas
  47. for progress.

  49. The workshop will be restricted to 60 active researchers in relevant fields.
  50. In the event that more than 60 applications are received, selection will be
  51. on the basis of position statements or full papers received. All delegates
  52. will receive duplicated copies of these statements and papers. Selected papers
  53. will, after suitable revision, be included in an ensuing book from a leading 
  54. publisher.

  76. Potential participants are asked to submit EITHER a short position statement 
  77. (no more than 2 sides of A4) OR a full paper of up to 6000 words. Only full
  78. papers will be considered for presentation at the conference and for the
  79. subsequent book.

  81. Suitable topics for papers include, but are not limited to:
  82.     The role of abstraction in modelling parallel computation.
  83.     Models for general purpose parallel and distributed computing.
  84.     PRAM models.
  85.     Performance modelling and verification.
  86.     The role of abstract models in parallel and distributed program design.
  87.     Hardware support for abstract machine models.
  88.     Shared objects and object-oriented programming for parallel computers

  92. FIVE copies of full papers should be submitted no later than 16th Dec. 1992.

  99.    The cost of the workshop is #210 (pounds sterling), with reduced rates
  100.    as follows (only one discount can be claimed):

  114.     One year's complimentary membership of PPSG is also included
