  27. This summer, Dartmouth will hold its second DAGS  institute to promote
  28. the  use  of  high-performance  computing.  As  in  1992, when  it was
  29. established with the  support  of the NSF  and Dartmouth  College, the
  30. institute  will bring  together  researchers  and  practitioners  from
  31. academia and industry.  This  year, the  institute will be composed of
  32. two parts: a  symposium (June 21-23) of invited and contributed talks,
  33. followed by  a  hands-on school (June 24-30) on  parallel programming.
  34. Housing will be  available at economical rates in college dormitories,
  35. near  to  conference sessions and  centrally  located on the Dartmouth
  36. campus.

  38.    June 21-23: SYMPOSIUM  The focus of the symposium this year will be
  39. on  parallel  I/O and databases.  Invited speakers: Alok Aggarwal (IBM
  40. T.J.  Watson), Garth  Gibson  (Carnegie Mellon),  David  Scott  (Intel
  41. Supercomputers),   Jeffrey  Vitter   (Duke),  David   Waltz  (Thinking
  42. Machines), John Wilkes (Hewlett-Packard).

  44. A  limited  number  of  contributed  papers  will   be   selected  for
  45. presentation.   Although  the focus  of the  invited  speakers  is  on
  46. parallel I/O and databases, we  welcome  contributed papers on  any of
  47. the following topics:
  48.        parallel I/O systems and algorithms,
  49.        parallel database systems,
  50.        software issues in the construction of parallel programs,
  51.        parallel-programming environments and tools,
  52.        implementation issues of parallel algorithms,
  53.        visualization algorithms and tools.

  55. Authors  are  invited  to  send  10  copies  of  their  doubled-spaced
  56. manuscripts  to be received  by February 15, 1993.  Manuscripts should
  57. be  limited to 20  pages.  Contributors will be notified of acceptance
  58. by  March  15,  1993 and  will be  given  instructions  for the  final
  59. presentation of their paper at that time.  Please send research papers

  63.    June 24-30: SCHOOL ON PARALLEL PROGRAMMING  The school will involve
  64. a hands-on course  on programming parallel algorithms  using  the NESL
  65. parallel language.   The course  will be  taught by  the  developer of
  66. NESL, Professor Guy Blelloch of Carnegie Mellon University. The course
  67. will  introduce several parallel  data structures  and  a  variety  of
  68. parallel algorithms and then look at how they can be implemented.  The
  69. school will include other activities conducted by different faculty of
  70. the DAGS '93 school, such as  tutorials on various software issues  of
  71. parallel  programming  and  exposure  to  or  demonstration  of  other
  72. parallel programming languages, such as C*.
