- Distributed Systems for Telecommunications

-
- Telecommunications networks, together with the end systems that use them, are
- distributed systems that are moving to more open architectures just as
- computing systems have. Different entities, controlling resources and
- offering services, negotiate and cooperate to achieve desired goals for
- rapid service creation and deployment, performance and fairness. This Special
- Issue seeks articles describing the distributed computing environments
- underlying these new architectures, tools and subsystems such as ANSA modules
- and simulation packages, architectural initiatives such as INA and TINA,
- descriptions of field experience, and architectural considerations for network
- signalling, resources management, recovery, and administration generally.
- Specific topics might include, beyond those already indicated,
-
- - Telecommunication Management Network (TMN) concepts and progress toward
- integrating them with intelligent network concepts.
- - New call models to support more sophisticated multimedia communications.
- - Federation issues (providing a service across more than one administrative
- domain, at various levels).
- - Service creation environments beyond telephony.
- - Extended forms of directory systems.
- - Comparisons of Internet and public network architectures, from both service
- and management perspectives.
-
- Case study experiences including lab and field trials are also solicited.
-
- Submission deadline: June 15, 1993
- Acceptance notification: September 15, 1993
- Final papers due: October 15, 1993
- Publication date: January, 1994
-
- Please submit four copies of the complete unpublished manuscript to
- either one of the guest co-editors. Papers should not exceed 20 double-
- spaced pages and up to five figures. Please include author's name,
- contact address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address if available.
