  14.                CALL FOR PAPERS
  15.       Fourth Workshop on Workstation Operating Systems (WWOS-IV)
  16.                Napa, California
  17.              October 14-15, 1993

  19. The Fourth Workshop on Workstation Operating Systems will bring
  20. together researchers in operating systems for a range of
  21. computing environments, including workstations, notebooks,
  22. and palmtop computers.  The purpose of WWOS-IV is to examine
  23. controversial issues in operating systems for these platforms.
  24.  
  25. In contrast to previous years, we request submissions of papers that
  26. describe ongoing or completed research, as well as position papers
  27. that propose new directions, advocate non-traditional approaches, or
  28. generate controversy and discussion.
  29.  
  30. As well as traditional topics, this year's workshop will pay special
  31. attention to issues relevant to the next generation of 
  32. personal computing, including:
  33.  
  34.     - models and implementations for ubiquitous computing    
  35.     - mostly connected/disconnected computing
  36.     - protocols for low-bandwidth networking
  37.     - scalable display and window management
  38.     - real-time and multimedia
  39.     - system requirements for virtual reality platforms
  40.     - global, widely accessible, storage systems    
  41.     - OS support for small-scale embedded systems
  42.  
  43. To assure a productive workshop, attendance will be limited to 60
  44. participants active in the field.  Each potential participant should
  45. submit 5 copies of a 1--5 page summary paper that makes clear its
  46. contribution to the workshop.  Submissions should be mailed to the
  47. program chair. For registration information, contact the general
  48. chair.
