  20. }anonymous FTP sites), I was able to create a 1.47MB diskette, on which I
  21. }created my boot diskette.  OS/2 is able to boot from such a disk, unlike
  22. }DOS.  Also, when you are prompted for the install diskette in making the
  23. }boot disk, you can use the boot disk from the CSD.  It seems to work also.

  25. Yes.  It appears that OS/2 actually uses the BIOS Parameter Block on the
  26. floppy disk (I think that's the data structure) instead of that horrid,
  27. kludgy media byte.  Thus, it works with (almost) any geometry you can
  28. manage to format onto a floppy disk.  I say almost because it doesn't
  29. seem to understand double density, double track density (720K) 5.25
  30. floppy disks -- it looks like it double steps the head as though it
  31. was single track density.

  33. Of course, such formats are officially "out-of-spec" so IBM evidently
  34. thinks you shouldn't be able to format such beasts.  You must use
  35. FDFORMAT under DOS (the "real thing," not a VDM).
