- well, I have it on good authority that IBM will be getting out of the mainframe
- business in the next few quarters (eg: diving off a sinking ship might just be
- the first signs of a plan for survival). No, I do not know any far up
- IBM insiders, I simply listened to what cuts IBM had announced over the last year.
- It is not hard to figure out what is and is not profitable for them.

- There was some mention of them closing the plants in Fishkill and Poughkeepsie NY
- (right near my old home town of Yorktown, which is where IBM research is) which
- make various chips... I hope the IBM will not be getting out of the workstation or
- PC areas. I have a PS Valuepoint 433 and I love it, and I hear the the RS
- 6000 is a nice machine to do heavy number crunching on...
