- Wanting to create an OS/2-bootable 5.25" 1.2MB floppy, and faced with
- several apparent choices for accomplishing that goal, I copied the
- following three files from os2-ftp.nmsu.edu:
-
- pub/os2/2.0/ibm/ews/boot20.zip
- pub/os2/2.0/sysutils/se20boot.zip
- pub/os2/2.0/bootdisk.txt
-
- The SE20BOOT.EXE PROGRAM
- ------------------------
- The boot20.zip and se20boot.zip files each unzipped to produce the
- se20boot.exe program. (Both zip files had the same executable image,
- dated 8/20/92 2:27p.) When executed to generate a bootable disk, each
- comes back with the following error:
-
- Failure While Copying (RC=112)
-
- I suspect perhaps there is not enough room on a 5.25" disk for the
- install. Performing CHKDSK on the A: floppy reports errors, and there
- appears to only be about 10KB of space remaining on it when boot disk
- creation is aborted. Trying to boot from such an improperly prepared
- diskette results in the following error:
-
- The system cannot load the dynamic link library NAMPIPES
- which is needed to start the system.
-
- Q: How does one get the se20boot.exe program to work for a 5.25" 1.2MB
- diskette? If there are any special switches, then the .zip file should
- include a .doc file explaining them.
-
- MANUAL PREPARATION OF BOOTABLE OS/2 DISKETTE
- --------------------------------------------
- The downloaded bootdisk.txt contains instructions for the manual
- geneation of a bootable floppy. In order to get the file set to fit
- on a 1.2MB FD, the author (Morton Kaplon) suggests deleting the
- PRINT01.SYS file. I find that even when I do this, the files still
- occupy more space than is available on the 1.2MB diskette.
- Here are the files I tried to copy, and their sizes:

- 35 file(s) 1231994 bytes used
- 218112 bytes free
-
- A 5.25" disk only had 1213952 bytes on it. Two differences between my
- files and those in Mr. Kaplan's instructions:
-
- 1. his customized CONFIG.SYS file is 439 bytes compared to mine (649).
- This is because I didn't get to the step where the modifications were
- discussed. However, the difference here is only around 200 bytes.
-
- 2. My "EA DATA. SF" is 16896 bytes while Mr. Kaplan's is only 3584.
- Must (can) I make this file smaller (and how?) or can I gain space by
- dropping one or more of the above files and still be able to boot
- under OS/2?
-
- I have the Service Pack installed on my system, if that makes any
- difference. So, what is the proper way to create an OS/2 bootable 5.25"
- 1.2MB flopy disk?
-
- Sincerely,
-
