- This was happening to me quite frequently and I had the same notion you
- did, in fact I was about ready to go back to Windoze! (say it isn't so :-))
-
- Thanks to helpful hints from this forum (don't set DELDIR in
- config.sys!) I now have a quite stable 2.1b going. Here is a tip of my
- own. Boot from the install disk and get to the A: prompt. Run chkdsk
- /f on your system (its on the 3rd disk).
-
- If *any* errors show up from chkdsk, especially cross-linked
- attributes make sure you fix them. I do that by creating a temporary
- directory. Copying the errant file or directory to the temporary
- directory and then deleting the original. Run chkdsk again to see if
- the errors are fixed. Then copy back to the original. Do this one at a
- time until all the errors are fixed.
-
- I believe many of my problems were related to installing over GA+SP
- and then reinstalling several times. The extended attributes got
- screwed up and I was unable to access some files in a DOS VDM. I
- believe this is all stated in the FAQ but worth repeating for those
- just trying out OS/2 on this wide release beta.
