- I've noticed a *VERY* high CPU usage whenever I print on my IBM PS/2 Model 70.
- I'm using a HP Laser Printer with Postscript cartridge connnected to LPT1.
- I've got 14 MB of memory.
-
- Under OS/2, one of the CPU meters shows CPU activity up at 40% - 50%
- when the spooler is churning output to the printer. Then, CPU usage
- goes down while the printer chugs away, then the usage goes way up again
- for the next chunk of data. During the time, the mouse is quite unresponsive.
-
- Under regular Windows 3.1, not OS/2, it's even worse. Mouse clicks and
- menu choices are ignored for even longer periods of time than with OS/2, so
- much so that you can't use Windows at all until the printing stops.
-
- On my COMPAQ 386/33L, which only has Windows 3.1, the machine is perfectly
- usage during printing.
-
- Why does this happen, and is there any way to tune the system so the
- CPU is usable during the printing?
