- Hello all. Has anyone else noticed that since installing 2.1b, certain
- DOS programs can't recognize the HD anymore? Specifically, F-Prot, the
- latest version available on wuarchive nor reports "Error reading Drive X"
- as soon as you try to scan the drive, whereas before it used to work like
- a charm. This is really annoying.
-
- I have found the 2.1b to be extremely unstable. It locks up exiting full
- screen windows apps about 50% of the time and CTRL-ALT-NUMLOCK now do
- nothing but freeze the machine. Booting from a DOS VDM hangs the entire
- machine also, if you try to use UMBs (by including a DOS=high, umb) in
- the config.sys.
-
- All of the above works perfectly in OS/2 2.0+SP. I recommend staying as
- far away from 2.1b as possible, unless you have the need for running some
- particular enhanced mode app in Windows (which isn't even guaranteed to
- work...the only thing I wanted was for my Gravis Ultrasound drivers for
- Windows (they require enhanced mode) to work but they don't). 2.0+SP
- is MUCH more stable.
-
- I think I'll reformat and reinstall 2.0 & SP with the Win3.1 beta from
- the 2.1beta...think this'll work people? Sure hope so...I'll let you know.
