- Ok, here is the skinny on the 16550 UARTs .....
-
- I received mail from several people asking to post this information to
- the net .... and I appreciate everyone's input that sent me email (too
- many to reply separately .... THANK YOU! (you know who you are!!)) ...
- Ok, here is what I did .... called Zero-One Networking out of Anaheim,
- CA (714) 693-8080 and they have a board with 2 16550's for $35 + S&H
- and you can get the board just like it comes for $25 + S&H (1 16550 and
- socketed for another if you decide to put it in .... ) ..... this sounded
- pretty good to me (just needed 1 16550 UART port).....
-
- Now about the 16550AF and 16550AFN controversy .... National Semiconductor
- (to the best of my knowledge) was the only one to release the AFN to fix
- a really obscure bug (read - probably wont affect more than 1/100000) and
- therefore the 16550AN is OK .... only time will tell!!
-
- Another few suggestions were to get the board from 2nd cousins twice
- removed <grin> that sell the equipment out of their second bedroom in
- a 2BR apartment .... didn't follow-up with these leads (I'm sure the
- merchandise is good ... just needed a better paper-trail).
-
- Thanks y'all!
