  10. Ok, here is the skinny on the 16550 UARTs .....

  12. I received mail from several people asking to post this information to
  13. the net .... and I appreciate everyone's input that sent me email (too
  14. many to reply separately .... THANK YOU! (you know who you are!!)) ...
  15. Ok, here is what I did .... called Zero-One Networking out of Anaheim,
  16. CA (714) 693-8080 and they have a board with 2 16550's for $35 + S&H
  17. and you can get the board just like it comes for $25 + S&H (1 16550 and
  18. socketed for another if you decide to put it in .... ) ..... this sounded
  19. pretty good to me (just needed 1 16550 UART port).....

  21. Now about the 16550AF and 16550AFN controversy .... National Semiconductor
  22. (to the best of my knowledge) was the only one to release the AFN to fix
  23. a really obscure bug (read - probably wont affect more than 1/100000) and
  24. therefore the 16550AN is OK .... only time will tell!!

  26. Another few suggestions were to get the board from 2nd cousins twice 
  27. removed <grin> that sell the equipment out of their second bedroom in
  28. a 2BR apartment .... didn't follow-up with these leads (I'm sure the
  29. merchandise is good ... just needed a better paper-trail).
