- Sometime ago, I posted about my adventures trying to install DOS & OS/2
- in a Boot Manager configuration on a 150 Meg drive. I was unable to get
- all three of the following to co-exist:
- 1) Boot Manager
- 2) FAT partition (primary, DOS boot)
- 3) HPFS partition (extended, installable, OS/2 boot)
- 4) Both of these on the BM menu
-
- After getting lots of helpful (Not!) advice, such as to read the
- installation guide (why didn't I think of that?), I finally figured out
- what the problem was. It turns out that OS/2 thought this drive was
- 169M even though we all know it was only 150M. So, it was necessary to
- leave the last 19 megs free on the disk. So, I ended up making the
- first 90 megs a primary partition (C:), the next 59 megs an extended
- parition D: drive, then finally the BM. After that, the remaining 19
- megs were left free.
-
- The point is that if I made the extended partition any bigger than 59
- megs, FDISK would not allow me to install the BM.
-
- Any ideas as to why FDISK would get confused as to how big the drive was?
