- I have been a Windows supporter all along up until OS/2 Came out. When it
- did, I installed it and tried it and LOVED it (even though I was only
- running with 4Mb RAM). Unfortunately, I had to switch back to DOS/Windows.
-
- The reason: lack of software !!!
-
- WinOS/2 was painully slow on my 386-33 and to date none of the
- applications I use daily are released for the OS/2...
-
- Here's a list:
-
- WordPerfect (I know it's coming out soon, but how about NOW)
- (I mean the GRAPHICAL version, not text based)
-
- Page Maker or Quark Express
-
- Yes, we need a DTP prorgram. Keep on asking for it!
-
- Excel or 1-2-3
-
- ????? I have had Excel 3.0 for OS/2 running for a long time (I have
- removed it now, I do not support MS anymore). And 1-2-3 has been
- around for a long time too. Currently you have to use version 1.1, but
- version 2.0 will be out in a few weeks.
-
- Corel Draw
-
- I think Corel Draw is available for OS/2.
-
- Also, there are no drivers for my video card out for OS/2 (Diamond Stealth
- VRAM)
-
- Now, give me a good reason to load up an OS that will eat up 25% of my HD
- space and give me nothing more than SLOOOOWW but protected (not even that
- at 100%) multitasking of the software I already multitask under DOS/Windows.
-
- Now, I do realize all the advantages of OS/2 but while there is no
- software that is written for it, I have to (with great sorrow) conclude
- that for me it is dead...
-
- You may still have to wait a few weeks or months for your favourite
- word processor. But when you have OS/2 2.1 and your word processor, I
- do not see any reasons for not giving OS/2 another try. You will still
- miss a DTP program. But OS/2 2.1 is reported to run Win 3.1 programs
- just as fast (or even faster) thatn native Win 3.1. So your Windows
- version of PageMaker will not run any better under Win 3.1.
-
-
- Win NT is already promises lots of Apps, but it is WAY too much of a hog
- (and who knows if they come through on those promises). So whats left out
- there OS-wise to chose from ? Can you say "DOS/Windows" ???? Sad, isnt it?
