- I don't know if you do much in the way of writing applications or
- operating systems or the like but I am getting sick of these complaining
- posts. Writing and development of such, what I would consider, very
- stable and good code, (a few problems exist though I admit) takes an
- enormous amount of money and time. Now I know cheaper is better to many
- of you, but IBM has bills to pay too. Much cudo's to IBM and firms like
- them who strive to stay world leaders in Software and hardware etc. We
- NEED to keep this technological edge on the world in order to stay one
- jump ahead of the competition.
- For the features and fullness of such an operating system I wouldn't
- mind paying $100 for it (initially). Whether 2.1 is a "bug fix" with
- enhancements (minor or major) is not really an issue. IBM should charge
- what they ought to cover their costs and finance research on future
- versions and enhancements. I personally don't like it that MickeySoft
- gets royalties but that's the way the land lies, and I am sure IBM
- doesn't like it any more than I do. If you are going to flame someone
- flame MickySoft for their greed and attempts to be be the one and only
- software vendor for the PC market.
-
- When IBM charges $50 for 2.1 they are fully justified in doing so.
- Actually it's a steal, but it seems those narrowminded individuals can't
- see that. For heaven's sake you pay $50 for plain stinking DOS! Please
- stop bitching and moaning about cheap upgrades of measly $50, you want
- super high upgrades talk about WordPerfect, now there's an upgrade
- policy I don't like at all! And don't give me that line about being a
- student or otherwise not having the financial means to purchase it. If
- you're running a system the runs os2 safisfactorily I am sure you could
- scare up the cash with minimal trouble. (FYI, I am also a student and
- have to run on an extremely limited budget, but I don't bitch and moan.
- :) ) If you don't want to pay $50 don't, and live with 2.0. It's
- actually quite OK. I've been running vanilla 2.0 (no csd , sp) and have
- no problem whatsoever.
-
- And FINALLY, $50 is NO RIPOFF! WHERE DID YOU AND OTHERS GET THAT IDEA?
-
- All flames and arguments happily accepted. Grow up folks.

- Laws of Computer Programming
-
- 1. Any given program, by the time it is up and running is obsolete.
- 2. Any given program costs more and takes longer than planned and budgeted.
- 3. Inside every large program is a small program struggling to get out.
- 4. Program complexity grows until it exceeds the capability of the programmer
- who must maintain it.
- 5. At the source of every error which is blamed on the computer, you will
