- Hello:
-
- I have a quick question -- at school I use X-Windows running under
- Sun/OS for my assignments. I have the ability to call in from home to
- do my work, but what I get is a single, normal, boring screen.
-
- I was wondering about getting X for OS/2, but here are a few questions
- I need to have answered first:
-
- (1) Is there a decent public-domain/freeware/shareware version of X
- specific to OS/2?
-
- (2) All I really need is the binaries -- where can I get them, and
- how much disk space do they take?
-
- (3) Can I continue to use OS/2 as per normal and only use X when I
- want to connect up?
-
- (4) Is it possible to dial up to the system at 9600bps, login, and
- use X over the line this way, or would the window packet protocols
- have too much overhead for this to work quickly?
-
- (5) If this is feasible, *how* much slower is X's overhead over those
- of standard terminal programs?
-
- About the only thing I'd use X for here at home would be to have one
- window for my editor, the other for my compiler, another for FTP'ing
- files, and maybe another for netrek. :-) Neither TCP/IP nor SLIP is
- an option for me, BTW.
-
- Any information you can provide would be most appreciated. Thanks in
- advance!
