  15. I finally installed NT over the weekend on my machine but ran into a couple
  16. of problems.  I would like to hear from others if they have had these
  17. problems or if they can suggest any fixes.
  18.  
  19. My machine configuration:
  20.  
  21.      486 DX2-66  VESA Local Bus   ATI Graphics Ultra Pro 1 Mb
  22.      16Mb RAM                     ADAPTEC 1542B SCSI Controller
  23.      Logitech Bus Mouse @ IRQ5    Maxtor SCSI disk formatted NTFS.
  24.      Com1, Com2, Lpt1             Sony CDU 541

  26. I installed NT using the NT Boot Disk, and it seemed to install correctly.
  27. The default installation detected Microsoft Bus Mouse, but later the mouse
  28. refused to work.  In fact there was no mouse cursor.  I know it worked
  29. earlier as I had been able to use the mouse under a number of programs
  30. including Win 3.1.  I have tried all the drivers listed, to no effect.
  31. Finally I tried an el-cheapo serial mouse on COM2.  That has been working,
  32. again using the Bus Mouse driver.

  34. Second problem: video card.  Once again, this card worked just fine on Win
  35. 3.1 at 1024*768.  On NT, the default VGA mode works just fine,  but I would
  36. like to use a 1024*768 mode.  I got the latest(?) driver from CServe
  37. (Saturday Jan 23rd).  Copied the files to proper directories, started
  38. ANTPANEL.EXE, selected the modes etc.  When I rebooted, the display was
  39. gone.  Actually there were some horizontal lines visible on the top part
  40. of the monitor that I guess was the opening NT logo.

  42. I used the repair disk to restore the VGA configuration, and since then have
  43. been test running a lot of software, mostly Windows based, and have not had
  44. any other major problem yet.

  46. So my questions are

  48.  Has anyone had similar mouse problems?  If so, could you fix them, and how?
  49.  
  50.  What do I need to do with the ATI card to get the driver working correctly?
  51.  
  52. Any suggestions, flames, criticisms will be welcome.
