- There have been a couple of posts referring to the existance of
- beta drivers for the Intel EtherExpress card. I haven't seen an
- answer, so I called Intel in Beaverton. They do indeed have a
- driver for NT. They don't however support it. They will take
- (and appreciate) bug reports, but it is not a product.
-
- Here is the scoop:
-
- The Intel BBS (503)645-6275 8-none-1:
- Download files;Network Products;Adapters & Hubs; EtherExpress;
- Interim...; filename EE16NT.EXE.
-
- There is no supporting documentation with the kit, so you are on
- your own to install it. I did the following:
-
- Virus scan the .exe with McAfee SCAN (clean)
- Run the EXE under DOS (i.e. DOS 5.0 not NT Console; didn't try console)
- Boot NT and use control panel for Networks
- Install Adapter
- Install Windows WOrkstation
- Install Windows Server
- Install NETBIOS
- Install NetBEUI
- Reboot when prompted
- Notice that the network isn't working
- Go to control panel for Services
- Try to start Windows Workstation
- Notice file not found error
- Uninstall and reinstall a couple of times
- Notice same error
- Remember had this problem before trying to go from no network
- to network
- Reinstall NT from CD
- When network prompt comes up, install adapter from directory
- which had EE16NT expanded.
- Notice error message saying EE16.SYS not found; cannot connect
- to domain at this time
- Reboot when requested
- Boot into DOS
- Copy EE16.SYS to winnt\system\drivers
- Reboot into NT
- Notice sparkler exists in File Manager, map a remote Wi4Wkg drive
- Retire to sleep as it is really late now.
-
- Hope this helps.
