- Sorry Michael, I couldn't find your email address anywhere, so I hope you
- read this board soon.
- Many programmes are only capable of running "inside" Windows, so you must
- have Windows first.
- In the future more and more programmes are going to be like this, with the
- older so-called DOS programmes gradually fading away. So your friend will
- have to convert eventually. And it will be so very worthwhile. The Windows
- environment is not difficult to learn, and it opens a lot of doors.
- I run Windows on a '286 machine with 2 Megs of Ram. I use Word for Windows
- and Excel, two major applications, without problems. A friend of mine has
- recently completed a PhD thesis of 200 pages, including links to enormous
- spreadsheets, on a similar machine.
- I know that 1 Meg of memory is not enough. In fact Windows 3.1 will not
- run in that machine, though Windows 3.0 will.
- I don't know Access, but postings in this forum suggest that it is very
- "hungry" for memory, and 2Megs will almost certainly not be enough.
