- One should not confuse Desktop with Program Manager. There are loads of replacements
- for Program Manager, some of which replaces the whole Desktop. Eg Norton Desktop
- replaces the whole Desktop, and so does NewWave. Programs that only replaces
- Program Manager as a way to launch programs/tools/documents are eg DashBoard
- (which I think looks pretty neat), Folders (Shareware, no drag and drop) and
- many more.
-
- They all share one vision: 'Program Manager stinks, mostly because
- it does not allow groups within groups..' That is also why I like Windows so much:
- Microsoft gives everybody a reason to improve windows, thus stimulating creativity
- in others. I personally think that Microsoft deliberately makes the very basics
- of its operating systems bad, and at the same time allow it to be changed by
- third-parties in any way imaginable.
-
- Well anyway, there are also utilities that changes the desktop slightly, or
- rather enhances it. Eg 'Rooms' (By Xerox, who invented the windows-concept from
- what I've heard..), 'BigDesk' (Shareware), and some more. Their vision is:
- 'The screen stinks, because it is too small'. They all work with what they call
- 'Virtual Screens'. Pretty neat too. 'Rooms' replaces Program Manager too.
-
- Is your program amongst any of these?
-
- See ya Rene (If you want everyone to like your program, make sure to do a bad job).
