  13.                CALL FOR PAPERS
  14.       Fourth Workshop on Workstation Operating Systems (WWOS-IV)
  15.                Napa, California
  16.              October 14-15, 1993
  17.  
  18. The Fourth Workshop on Workstation Operating Systems will bring
  19. together researchers in operating systems for a range of
  20. computing environments, including workstations, notebooks,
  21. and palmtop computers.  The purpose of WWOS-IV is to examine
  22. controversial issues in operating systems for these platforms.
  23.  
  24. In contrast to previous years, we request submissions of papers that
  25. describe ongoing or completed research, as well as position papers
  26. that propose new directions, advocate non-traditional approaches, or
  27. generate controversy and discussion.
  28.  
  29. As well as traditional topics, this year's workshop will pay special
  30. attention to issues relevant to the next generation of 
  31. personal computing, including:
  32.  
  33.     - models and implementations for ubiquitous computing    
  34.     - mostly connected/disconnected computing
  35.     - protocols for low-bandwidth networking
  36.     - scalable display and window management
  37.     - real-time and multimedia
  38.     - system requirements for virtual reality platforms
  39.     - global, widely accessible, storage systems    
  40.     - OS support for small-scale embedded systems
  41.  
  42. To assure a productive workshop, attendance will be limited to 60
  43. participants active in the field.  Each potential participant should
  44. submit 5 copies of a 1--5 page summary paper that makes clear its
  45. contribution to the workshop.  Submissions should be mailed to the
  46. program chair. For registration information, contact the general
  47. chair.
