  11. First off, thanks to everyone who replied to my first inquiry about Linux
  12. and my specific hardware. I have the latest SLS (.99pl2) release installed
  13. and it works like a charm. Thank you Peter and Linus!

  15. Now for the question... I'm trying to set up my Xconfig file for my 
  16. setup. I have a Diamond Speedstar (I know, I know, but mine is a much-older
  17. model... just a Speedstar Plus, 1MB, 1024x768x256, Rom Rev 4.23, ET4000
  18. chipset), and a Gateway "Crystal Scan 1024NI" monitor. I've read all the
  19. doc files and FAQs. My question is this:

  21. In the video.tutorial file that comes with the X386 distribution, they
  22. mention both my card and my monitor [:-)], and list specs/clock frreuencies
  23. for both. However, they only list resolutions 640x480, 800x600, and
  24. 1152x900 (!?). They skipped 1024x768 [:-(]. So what's up? Can I have X
  25. in 1024x768x256 mode with my card/monitor? BTW, I don't care for the
  26. 1152x900 "virtual" resolution... I'd be more than happy with just using
  27. my monitor's max resolution and nothing else.

  29. If anyone has a working Xconfig file with the same configuration as I have
  30. I'd sure appreciate a copy. Otherwise, some pointers as to how to approach
  31. the problem are welcome. I'll start hacking around with the help of the 
  32. clock.exe program and see if I get anywhere.
