- I thought I could fiddle around until something worked for me, but nothing
- works. I can't bring up the X server. Here is the output from startx:
- =====
-
- no SIOCGIFCONF
- XFree86 Version 1.0Ya / X Window System
- (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 5000)
- Configured drivers:
- VGA256 (256 colour SVGA):
- et4000, et3000, pvga1, gvga, ati, tvga8900
- giving up.
-
- xinit: Invalid argument (errno 22): unable to connect to X server
- xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
- =====
- Somebody else asked about the "no SIOCGIFCONF" error message, but I couldn't
- find a response. The symptoms are: the screen blanks (goes into graphics
- mode of some kind) and then X dies. The text-mode screen never returns, and
- I have to reboot to get it back (since X doesn't run, C-Alt-BkSp doesn't help).
-
- Hardware (if it matters): 486DX/33, 8MB RAM, 16MB swap
- Trident TVGA8900c video card with 1MB ram,
- Non-multisync monitor (800x600 non-interlace, 1024x768 interlace).
-
- One readme file suggested I should run "startx.notcp", but SLS doesn't appear
- to have it (.99p2).
-
- Any ideas?
