- Hi y'all.
-
- First of all, I'd like to thank those whose helped me get
- my system up to this working order, with some minor glitches.
-
- At this moment, a few things are hampering my enjoyment
- with using Linux and I hope someone out there can help me with them.
-
- 1) Well, with empire, it really isn't a problem, just
- some sort of ambiguity in filenames. I was told
- to execute the 'file' command. I executed it and
- it gave me some useage error... I checked that there
- exists a 'file' command other than the 'file' command
- that came with the empire binaries. So I renamed the
- empire's file command to something else and it works.
- Btw, that was just general info for everyone else.
-
- The minor question I'd like to know is how do I start
- servers? ie. I was told to start the 'emp_tm' and
- the 'emp_login' server. Just for refreshing, do I
- execute it like the following?:-
-
- /usr/games/lib/empire/bin/emp_tm &
- /usr/games/lib/empire/bin/emp_login &
-
- 2) For news, I've been asking privately around and
- still have no idea what the hell is wrong. Please
- pardon my frustrations, as I do not mean to offend anyone.
- After posting with 'trn', it processes the article( I think)
- for a bit, and then it gives me the following message:-
-
- '/usr/local/lib/news/inews: article in /root/dead.article'
-
- Can someone please help me with this?
-
- 3) For 'talk' and 'ytalk', both commands have also been giving
- me problems. Whenever I issue a 'talk wonge' I get a
- LONG delay, and then an error message :-
-
- talk: eagles: Host name lookup failure
-
- And when I do a 'ytalk wonge' I get :-
-
- Unknown host: eagles: Connection refused
-
- Can someone pinpoint my error? My /etc/hosts seems to
- be in proper order being(I think, and I was told to do something
- like this):-
-
- # /etc/hosts
- 127.0.0.1 loopback eagles eagles.van.bc.ca
- # end
-
- Come to think of it, there could be a relation between #2 and
- #3, in the sense that, I think that my TCP/IP isn't working well. I
- do not want to frustrate anyone out there, so I'm not gonna ask any
- probable-faq questions.
-
- However, I would like to ask if someone can tell me how I
- can RE-DO everything from scratch. Do I delete everything from
- /etc/inet and d/l the appropriate stuff (TCP/IP avec named..etc)
- or to make life easy (:, do I just delete a few data files and
- issue the config command again. Mind you, is there any alterations
- to what I enter in the config script, when I'm just using loopback
- mode?
-
- Personally, I wish someone can at least make a small file which
- describes the procedures for installing TCP/IP for loopback mode. It
- would be especially helpful for newbies.
-
-
- Thank you very much, any help appreciated...
