  11. I run an anon-ftp site in another (non-linux) life and I use a quickie
  12. perl program I whipped up to generate a files_area listing of what's
  13. what, how big is it, when was it changed, and where is it in the tree.
  14.  
  15. I stuck (my best understanding of) the latest SLS .tpz distribution and
  16. all changes since the last massive change on a DOS partition and here's
  17. the output.
  18.  
  19. Consider it one example of the kind'a information I think is needed.
  20. WARNING - THERE HAVE BEEN LOTS OF SLS CHANGES AND SOME AREN'T DOCUMENTED
  21. IN THE HISTORY FILE...THIS MIGHT NOT BE PERFECTLY ACCURATE !!!

  23. Again, the other thing I'd like to see is to have one command to list
  24. which packages, and versions (very important) are installed on the system
  25. something like:
  26.             base.tpz    v1.0002
  27.             etc.tpz        v1.0002
  28.             tcpip.tpz    v1.0010

  30. My solution is to get sysinstall to stick one commented-out line at the
  31. top of each /install/installed/* file...then the command is a simple grep,
  32. but I'm sure there are dozens of ways to do the same thing cleanly.

  45. This file contains information pertaining to the most current version of
  46. the SLS (Linux Soft Landing System) distribution of Linux.  The filename
  47. descriptions are the best we can come up with at this time based on the
  48. limited SLS documentation currently available.
  49.  
  50. Please feel free to fill in the blanks or let us know if you see file
  51. descriptions that can be added or improved...
  52.  
  53. This file reflects the initial SLS 0.99-2 '.tpz' repackaging of things
  54. with gzip plus all known changes since that date.  It should be complete
  55. and accurate as of noon PST 1/22/93. If it's not, please let us know !!!

  57. NOTE: there is no SLS 'z1' disk.  We created one to stick all the faq's
  58.     and readme files in one place to clean up the local disks...
