- I've been looking into getting an S3 video card for use with X386 (the
- X-window software) running over linux. It seems the highest
- performance cards supported by X386 drivers are S3 801 based. That is
- the conclusion I've drawn from last month's issue of Byte's comparison
- of Windows accelerators.
-
- It seems that from the Byte review the best card is the Actix
- GraphicsEngine32. A close runner up was the Orchid Fahrenheit 1280 VA
- (the one with the Voice Annotation function which as far as I know is
- not supported by linux). I can find the Orchid card everywhere but I
- cannot seem to find the superior Actix card anywhere. I've looked
- through the whole January Computer Shopper (no small feat) and could
- not find anyone who sells any Actix product.
-
- The question is:
- Is there anyone out there who sells the Actix GraphicsEngine32?
- Do you have one of these boards? Where did you get it and how
-
- thanks for any leads... ...John
