  10. Well, I've installed Xwindow on my system, but I can't get it to
  11. do anything. When I type "startx", I just get another UNIX prompt
  12. and a "core" file. The "core" file says:

  14.     warning no client init file
  15.     warning no server init file
  16.     Server error
  17.     Client error
  18.     Xserver to begin accepting connections
  19.     giving up
  20.     wating for %s. no server %s in PATH
  21.  
  22. and a lot of other stuff. "X" is in my PATH, linked to "X386".

  24. If I just type "xinit", I get "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"
  25. plus the same stuff as I got with "startx".

  27. xinit apparently never gets to loading "Xconfig", because I tried
  28. "mv"ing it and I get no complaints that it can't be found.

  30. My setup is: a Diamond Speedstar VGA board with a Tseng ET-4000AX
  31. chip and a MAG Computronics 1448 monitor. My system is a TriStar
  32. 386/33MHz. I know there's a FAQ item that says X doesn' work with
  33. Diamond, but other docs and postings say it does. I'm using Linux
  34. v0.97p2. I was hoping to avoid upgrading until v1.00 since it is
  35. difficult for me to download megabyte files.
