  11. COMPONENT WORKSHOP(tm) Mac V1.0 has been shipping for about 8 weeks now, and we
  12. are thrilled to have almost 200 new users. We appreciate all your feedback,
  13. and want you to know that we are listening, so we thought it would be a good time
  14. to give you a progress report.
  15.  
  16. Many of our users are very happy, and impressed by what we have accomplished.
  17. Others have commented that while we have great potential, we are missing
  18. features. In response to that, we say, you're absolutely right, we do have
  19. some missing pieces.
  20.  
  21. In the initial release of COMPONENT WORKSHOP, our emphasis has been on our
  22. unique and powerful OO technology. Since then, we have been listening to
  23. customer feedback and responding to it. For instance, at a training session,
  24. when asked for auto indenting, we wrote it and posted it on our bulletin board
  25. within a few short hours .

  27. So what's next?
  28.  
  29. Version 1.1 of COMPONENT WORKSHOP, due out in April, will feature Application
  30. Framework printing, change sets (the ability to collect all the changes made
  31. since the last save and write them out as a text file), Application Framework
  32. enhancements including Floating Windows, Behaviors and Adorners, Graphical
  33. Menus, co-handling, lots of Goodies, and of course, the Extruder(tm). We are
  34. just beginning our QA process on all this code now.

  36. Version 1.2, due to ship in the September/October time frame will feature
  37. debugger stepping, modular additions, DAL, DAM/ODBC, support for the
  38. AppleEvent Object Model, more Application Framework enhancements, exception
  39. handling, Application Framework exceptions, and more goodies.

  41. Our strategy is simple, we want to seed the Mac Market with COMPONENT WORKSHOP
  42. in 1993. The $495 special is available until March 31, 1993, and includes the
  43. Extruder and V1.1. We have even priced the Annual Manintenance at $200.00,
  44. which would include V1.2, and a guaranteed 50% reduction off future upgrade
  45. prices.

  47. Stay tuned for our announcement of AppMaker for COMPONENT WORKSHOP which will
  48. be coming in the next month. The work is complete - it is now in test. We will
  49. be reselling it and providing it as an upgrade to existing AppMaker customers,
  50. as well as a new product from Component Software Corporation.

  52. We are in the process of producing a white paper on the key concepts of our
  53. object model with special emphasis on the letter/envelope idiom. Our users
  54. have said this would help them learn to use the product faster. Many of you
  55. have asked when Jeff Alger would do his follow up analysis of our product, and
  56. we're happy to report that once the Extruder is available, Jeff will be
  57. conducting a complete product review for Frameworks.

  60. San Diego February 15-19, where there will be a 36 hour COMPONENT WORKSHOP
  61. Hack-Off.
