- I wrote the X-oR/Unisyn patch editor profiles for the 01/W and 03R/W
- that Dr.T's and Mark Of The Unicorn are currently selling. The Combi
- and Program patch formats are identical for both machines, but that does
- not mean you can swap patches between the two. First, the 03R/W has a
- different set of PCM samples in ROM than the 01/W. In some cases the
- sample numbers match up, but not always. If the 03R/W has the same
- sample as the 01/W but in a different location you'll have to change the
- sample on the 03R/W Program (if indeed it the 03R/W has the
- corresponding sample).
-
- Second, the 03R/W doesn't have the wave shaping feature that the 01/W
- has, so patches that rely heavily on wave shaping cannot be emulated on
- the 03R/W. The Programs will still play on the 03R/W, but the wave
- shaping parameters are ignored, so the sound produced may be vastly
- different.
-
- Finally, exchanging Combinations depends on having Program banks
- structured exactly the same way on both machines, which isn't likely
- unless you don't change the factory settings.
-
- On the bright side, it is still possible to transport a good many
- Programs from the 01/W to the 03R/W. I have an X-oR format bank of the
- 01/W's default A bank of Programs that I ported over for the 03R/W with
- pretty good results. I may get around to porting the B bank once I'm
- finished writing the K2000 profile...

-
- I can't imagine it's legal to swap patches bought from Korg or 3rd party
- vendors. I'd be happy to swap home grown patches in X-oR format for the
- 03R/W. E-mail me at the address BELOW (don't try to reply to the
- address listed in the header... your mail will bounce).
-
- Anyone tried out the PCM cards for either of these instruments? I'm not
- likely to buy any now that I have a K2000, but I'm still curious how
- they sound.
