  13. I'm looking for information on Local Bus video. We had been looking into
  14. buying a Gateway machine with a local bus ATI Graphics Ultra, but Gateway's
  15. speed in shipping and tech support record has been a little weak for my
  16. taste. So, then we were going to check out Dell. I called Dell today and
  17. their tech support told me that their Local Bus Video was *not* VESA-
  18. compatible, nor did it have slots - it was just an S3 chipset on the
  19. motherboard with their own interpretation.

  21. I'm looking for a local bus sytem that is VESA-compatible and that will
  22. allow me to put in a fast local bus video board, like the ATI Graphics
  23. Ultra implementation of Gateway's, and a local bus IDE controller. Is
  24. there anyone out there doing multimedia with local bus, or is it two
  25. early in the life cycle? I don't want to wind up with a motherboard that
  26. won't work with any later video boards. Does anyone know if Gateway's
  27. system is VESA-compatible and a solid, robust implementation likely to
  28. be around for awhile?

  30. Would I be better off buying a straight machine without local bus video
  31. and putting in an ATI Graphics Ultra? The goal is 320x200 15 frames per
  32. second video off of hard disk or, eventually, CD/ROM. Is this even realistic?
  33. We can get a 486/66 ISA machine to start with, but I would like feedback
  34. on doing digital video in this stage of the technology. If it is going to
  35. take us several more iterations before it works, I may go with an analog
  36. video solution for now.
